Last Meeting 12th March 09 at Kaikohe Tuesday, Mar 31 2009

Outing:

We spent time at Pioneer Village before our meeting. The begonia house (at Pioneer Village) was spectacular, I had trouble with the background and lighting, I ran around finding the spots where sun occasionally settled and backgrounds would not be blown-out sky, good shots were very obtainable despite the difficulties.

Later we walked around outside finding visual treasures from times long past.

Photographers are a rare breed.  Members could be seen lying in strange positions trying to get that perfect shot.

Meeting

Vin talked to our group about Macro Photography.
Thank you Vin, it was wonderful.  You obviously put in a lot of time and effort to get such a professional and flowing presentation. The standard of work was mind-blowing.  The talk was informative and easy to follow.  It has inspired me to try harder.

I am constantly reminded that it is easy to ask someone to speak but the background work and effort that goes into the resulting presentation can be tremendous.

Critique of photos at Liz’s

This was an impromptu meeting at Liz’s house, sorry if we did not give people much time.
Photos from the begonia house and Pioneer Village were shown straight off the camera. Some we saw the before and after (editing). This created discussion about what we liked and didn’t like and how we could improve.

Last Meeting 12th February 09

We had a reasonable turn-out, of what is becoming our core group.
It was very casual session, we discussed the photography that was submitted for our Club Competitions, and discussed what makes a good photo.
I am not sure I am any wiser in this area as we all have different triggers but emotion seems to be a strong point. Even composition was disputed as breaking all the rules can be effective.

Dot brought along a handout on ‘Tips for top shots’ we have some more for these if you missed out.

Liz showed us slides and gave a talk on her trips into Puketi Forest to help re-establish the Kokako back into the Forest. It was a wonderful insight into the work that goes into this project, the successes and the heartbreaking failures. The more uncomfortable the conditions: mud, danger signs, traps, cut and bruises, the more humorous the story become. Thank you Liz. Your sense of humor follows you.

I gave an example of a slide show made with Photodex ProShow Gold. It is a really fun program that presents your digital pictures in an animated slide show with music. It then can be presented on a computer, a DVD, TV, a Flash file that can be inserted into a web page, e-mail or Blue-ray a next generation HD disc.
A demo version can be downloaded from www.photodex.com.
